History of Denton

Denton's formation is closely tied to that of Denton County. White settlement began in the mid-1800s when William S. Peters obtained a land grant from the Texas Congress and named it Peters Colony. The Texas Legislature voted to form Denton County in 1846, and the city was incorporated in 1866.
Both the county and city were named for John B. Denton, a preacher and lawyer who was killed in 1841 during a skirmish with the Kichai people. The arrival of the railroad in 1881 spurred population growth, and the establishment of the University of North Texas in 1890 and Texas Woman's University in 1901 distinguished Denton from neighboring regions.
After DFW International Airport opened in 1974, Denton experienced more rapid growth. The population grew from 26,844 in 1960 to 48,063 in 1980, and reached 139,869 by 2020. Denton was the 13th largest-gaining city nationwide in terms of numeric population change between 2022 and 2023.

Climate Considerations for Denton Cleaning

Denton's location on the northern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex means businesses experience typical North Texas weather patterns, including hot summers and the potential for severe spring storms. The city's position in Tornado Alley requires businesses to be prepared for emergency situations.
Spring and fall bring significant pollen that can affect indoor air quality, particularly challenging for the healthcare facilities and educational institutions that serve the community. Our Denton teams are equipped to address these regional factors, maintaining clean, healthy indoor environments for the city's students, residents, and visitors throughout the year.
